Days Until Calculator
Countdown to dates
Countdown to dates Runs locally in your browser
Target date in YYYY-MM-DD format.
About the
The Days Until Calculator counts how many days separate today from a date you care about, and it also counts backwards, so the same field tells you how long since a past date. It uses your device clock as the reference, which means the answer is correct for wherever you are rather than for a server in another time zone. Use it for deadlines, launches, trips, renewals and anything else you need to see as a countdown.
Where people use the
- Counting down to a deadline, a launch or an event.
- Checking how many days are left on a subscription or a trial.
- Working out how long ago something happened.
- Seeing how many weeks remain before a trip so you know what to prepare.
How to use the
- 1
Enter the target date
Use the YYYY-MM-DD format, for example 2027-01-01.
- 2
Run it
The tool compares the target against the current moment on your device.
- 3
Read the result
A future date gives days until plus the equivalent in weeks. A past date gives days since. Today gives a same-day message.
- 4
Change the date and run again
There is no state between runs, so you can check several dates in a row.
Tips and best practices
- Add one to the result if you want to count today as well.
- Check your device date if the number looks a day off.
- The week figure is more useful than the day figure for planning anything more than a month out.
Frequently asked questions
Does it count today?
No. It reports whole days remaining, so a date tomorrow gives 1 and today gives 0. If you need to include today, add one to the result.
Why is the count off by one from my calendar?
Almost always because of the count-today question, or because your device clock is set to a different time zone. The tool reads your local date, not UTC.
What about the time of day?
The difference is rounded up to the next whole day, so a date later today still counts as one day rather than zero.
Can I use it for a date in the past?
Yes. A past date is reported as days since that date, with the same week equivalent.
Does it account for leap years?
Yes. The calculation works on real timestamps, so February in a leap year is handled correctly.
